VIMSHOTARRI DASHA

Major period lord =
Mahadasha pati - or- bhukti pati - or - pratyantaradasha pati
Awkward Angles
When the distance from the period lord to the sub-period lord = the inauspicious angle, the Implications =
any graha
12th-from = "dissolving, erasing"
graha placed in 12th from the major period lord can temporarily dissolve identity. during the subperiod of graha residing in 12th-from, one may be subject to "erasure" in a community or in a relationship. Public attention to one's existence is psychically dimmed, and one enters some type of enclosure, so that one is temporarily unseen . People behave as if one does not exist.
any graha
6th-from = "accusing, complaining"
graha placed in 6th from the major period lord can temporarily induce illness, animosity, broken unions, failed agreements, betrayal, poverty, and debt. However unless the graha in 6th-from the period lord is truly virulent, the most common outcome is a victim-feeling of disappointment following a "broken promise". the native or the agent represented by the graha in 6th-from may experience temporary ill-health.
Surya [Sun]
6th-from Surya
ego conflict
  • poor health (6) according to the character of the graha residing in 6th-from Ravi. (e.g. if 6th from Ravi contains Shani, diseases of hardness such as tumors or skin ailment).
  • Faltering of the Will due to conflict and distrust (6). Damage to self-confidence due to accusations and complaints.
  • Alienation from Divine Intelligence, animosity in public life, temporarily tarnished reputation, temporary unhealthiness (6) of the father (Ravi).
Chandra[Moon]
12th-from Chandra
  • loss of physical or emotional stability,
  • insecurity
  • erosion of connection to the birth place or customs
  • loss of protection
  • dissolution of bond with parent or caretaker
Rootlessness, wandering from the place of birth, loss of connection to parents, Emotional loss, alienation, withdrawal, denial, mother retreats into her private world, despair, loss of energy to go forward, pulled back into the astral plane.
  • Gripped by a subconscious impulse toward dissolution and loss, the native first tries to numb the pain of separation and then, often in a sub-period of Ketu, releases emotional attachment to one who has become a source of disappointment.
  • Feeling of emotional starvation, emotional abandonment, and erosion of long-held goals and expectations as a cloud of frustration and despair grows thick.
  • Notably poor decisions in love, commerce and career, travel choices, or spiritual path.
  • Dissolution of the attachment to mother and distrust of her.
  • Mothering and maternal attachments even of the friends, siblings, and grandmother, teacher, feminine religious figures and counselors... all women seem suspect, seen through a glass darkly.
Overestimates one's own abilities to parent (Chandra) without support of other women, other parents, without a fixed home (Chandra) or roots in a place.
Mangala [Mars]
12th-from Mangala
lost vitality
repressed anger, emotional volatility, subconscious conflict, psychosomatic illness
  • denial of aggressive energies at work in the environment. Often involves a sudden eruption of the long-denied forces causing a destructive physical loss.
8th-from-mahadashapathiThe 8th angle does not connote disease. It connotes the shake-ups which cause the shedding of old skins, and the emergence of a fresh new skin. It connotes eruptions which signal change of identity, emergence of previously hidden information, and sudden birth of new ideas (which require jettison of the old ideas). 8th angles do not signify chronic illness but they do involve psychological trauma, and sudden changes.
  • the native may feel mentally depressed, suffer from a disturbed or over-active internal narrative, and unable to clearly express his true intentions. He must retreat to silent sanctuary, unable to communicate successfully with others.
  • The specific nature of the alienating, mentally obtuse inability to communicate one's thoughts successfully usually results in rejection and depression all around.
  • (Exception occurs when Budha and the graha in 3rd from Budha enjoy parivartamsha yoga. Then, good mental results are expected.)

Budha[Mercury]
3rd-from Budha
mental traffic
"3rd" angle = controlled by Mangala, and Mangala has a permanently adversarial relationship with Budha.
Any graha in 3rd-from Budha can produce mental over-exertion. Too much thinking - even excessive positive thinking - can lead to mental exhaustion from the endless chatter, restlessness, Anxiety, frayed nerves.

Of all the seven graha which can occupy this place -- Chandra, Mangala, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu, or Ketu -- Shani in 3rd-from-Budha poses the most serious challenge to the enjoyment of life.
Shani in 3rd-from-Budha = negative thinking, scarcity thinking, mental oppression by the rule of law, unduly hard mental work, bitterness, undue concern with heavy consequences, and significant psycho-mental depression.
If Shani occupies 3rd-from-Budha,
  • characteristic mental sobriety throughout the incarnation.
  • This position indicates an agency of younger siblings and team-mates who suffer from excess fear. Their conservative and safety-seeking actions may create obstacles for positive expansion of the native 's own life.
  • the native may experience a light but pervasive mental depression throughout the 17 years of Budha Mahadasha
  • (even if the native is a child at the time, the depression will be felt for 17 years)
  • The bhukti of Budha-Shani may induce a severe or extended depression, which lifts only at the tail end of the Budha Mahadasha
  • drishti from the gochara Shani affecting either Budha or Shani will deepen the existing depression
  • Should Budha occupy the radix lagna or Chandra's bhava, so that Shani occupies not only 3rd-from-Budha but also 3rd-from-lagna/3rd-from-Chandra, the depression may be quite crippling.
Much relief can be felt when other graha cast a positive drishti upon natal Shanaischarya.
Luckily, the Budha/Shani period occurs only once during the lifetime.
Rahu in 3rd-from-Budha = risk-positive thinking, adventurous or taboo-breaking ideas
Disruptive, adventurous, ambitious, occasionally fraudulent agency of younger siblings and team-mates who suffer from excess desire to obtain privileges not yet earned.
Their disruptive and risky actions may create interruptions in stable progress of the native 's own life. It is difficult to control the immediate younger sibling in particular, when this agent acts in ways that disregard protocol and challenge the law.
  • During the mahadasha of Budha, if Rahu occupies 3rd-from-Budha, the native may feel that one's thoughts have taken on an obsessive-compulsive quality.
  • It becomes difficult to control thoughts focused on the desire to possess a person, a power, or an experience.
  • the native may be unable to endure limits of any kind upon one's behavior.
  • One feels antagonistic toward authority and disrespectful of human law.
  • Positive outcome can include the benefits of breaking with tradition in art, literature, sport, or other humanistic venues where innovation and risk are praised.
  • Naturally if Rahu occupies a conservative rashi (of Shani or Shukra) or if Rahu occupies a house which craves stability (4 or 7), the prognosis is less happy.
  • However an adventurous mentality can always produce something interesting even if the native must wait until after the Budha/Rahu period to receive proper validation for the ground-breaking or record-breaking production.
  • During Budha/Rahu period one is more likely to feel censured for being disruptive, but indeed there may be praise forthcoming later, after Budha Mahadasha is complete.
Ketu in 3rd-from-Budha = withdrawal from commercial activity, disinterest in siblings
  • Ketu occupies the 3rd from Budha = each small decision requires careful and circumspect review.
  • The judgment = flawed during the entire Budha-Ketu period.
  • Disregard and dissolution via Agency of younger siblings and team-mates who suffer from excess detachment.
    • Their apathetic withdrawal from life's vital sensuality may create frustration and paralysis in one's own life.
    • It is difficult to convince the immediate younger sibling to be more intensely involved or to be satisfied with the life that agent has chosen.
    • The younger sibling under good conditions may take a vow of religious celibacy or other saintly detachment.
    During the mahadasha of Budha, if Ketu occupies 3rd-from-Budha, the native may feel that the thought-narrative has an apathetic quality.
  • It becomes difficult to control the thought traffic specifically the interior instructions which direct one to annihilate the outdated relationships which still bind the native to the material plane.
  • For the spiritually advanced and properly guided personality, true ego separation from material concerns may occur and a saintly detachment results.
  • For the less spiritually aware, there is a tendency to depression and disconnection from reality which can be interpreted as mental illness, although it is usually just the first phase of a genuine enlightenment which will bloom in a later era of Ketu.
  • Ketu chidakaraka = "cut-off" = dissolution of attachment to outdated relationships and separation from objects of desire toward which one is unable to maintain any further desire. Ketu periods can signify divorce if other pointers agree, and when Ketu occipes the mentally over-exerted and rather anxious 3rd-freom-Budha, the divorce signification gains added potency.

Guru[Jupiter]
6th-from Brihaspati
  • Enemies of Wisdom
  • crisis of faith
6th-from angle = controlled by Budha, and Budha has a permanently adversarial relationship to Guru.
imbalance in belief system, animosity or antagonism from spiritual worlds, loss of faith, religious doubt
  • Similar to effects of 6th-from-Dhanushya = Vrishabha (sensual pleasures) and 6th-from-Meena = Simha (ego).
Shukra[Venus]
4th-from Shukra

(6th-from Shukra and 12th-from-Shukra can be difficult also)
4th-from angle = controlled by Chandra, and peer-equal-balance Shukra chronically dislikesChandra the I-am-big-you-are-small parent-child protector
Graha in 4th-from-Shukra take away spousal pleasuring and replace it with parental caretakingemotions. In a marriage, this era emphasizes parent-child duties or matters of personal emotional security.
  • Interpersonal intimacy is much diminished.
  • threatens but does not destroy the marriage. L-4 from Shukra does not destroy the bond but does "depreciate" the spouse.
  • If Shukra in Mesha the crisis of depreciation is doubled because Chandra is both karaka and lord of 4th from Shukra.
  • If Rahu in 4th from Shukra, some extreme crisis or sudden uncoiling of the kundalini force may set the scene for the struggle between marital peer bond vs parenting.

During Shukra/Budha period,
  • if Budha occupies 4th-from Shukra, the competition between peer alliance vs parenting feelings manifests in communication

Shani[Saturn]
6th-from Saturn
agents of trouble =conflict with government, law
vulgar and lawless enemies, rough conditions due to overwork, exploitation, poverty, disease, chronic imbalance, "punishment energy"

Sustained oppression of servitude or slavery . Need to work without a contract (6); underpaid; exploited with no legal recourse.
Obligation to accept long-term, unresolvable problematic conditions while steadily working in a toxic, adversarial, resource-deprived, class-oppressed environment.
Intimidation and loss of social or civil rights (loss of social contract) via social discrimination. Disagreements in marriage and broken contracts in business.

Rahu
[North lunar node]
6th- from Rahu
12th-from-Rahu

Rahu moves "backwards" so this would be agraha in
  • shad-ashtaka 6-8 angleto Rahu
  • 2/12 angle to Rahu
agents of trouble = enemies of Quick Advancement, exploitersentrapment
Animosity from predatory people and exploitive environments which insidiously block one's attempts at quick and clever social-material advancement.
Imprisonment or long assignment in distant lands during 12th-from-Rahu .
  • For example, multimedia magnate homecraft Martha Stewart was imprisoned in a facility much farther away from her home base than she wanted, during Rahu-Surya period where Surya = L-12 from Rahu.
Results of dealing with tricky and fraudulent adversaries may lead the native into a temporary state of poverty and illness from psychic exhaustion.
  • Often, one tricks oneself; one becomes one's own worst enemy.
One schemes toward a Great Leap Upward, but the results of machinations intended to produce sudden, illicit personal elevation are often disastrous.
Those whom one intends to exploit (6) become one's own exploiters..
Arguments and addictions bind one to the none-too-desirable object of one's desire.
Sneaky, slimy adversaries. Sneakier than you. Theft and entrapment. Caught in a "sting".
  • For example, the native might become addicted to drugs which offer the false promise (6) of permanent alertness, so that one can be superhumanly (Rahu) productive not needing to sleep. Illness at the least; jail (6) at the worst.
  • One might scheme a financial "breakthrough" that is found to be illegal and forces litigation, bankruptcy or jail
  • Illegal undertakings of many varieties are possible under this angle, all of which are motivated by the glitter of get-rich-quick or get-famous-quick.
  • Rahu famously lacks impulse control. In periods of 6th-from-Rahu, the enemies lack even the barest respect for contractual agreements and even "honor amongst thieves" disappears
  • Even the bhava which occupies shad-ashtaka 6-8 from Rahu can be problematic, with agency of that bhava representing those who block one's attempts to vigorously get ahead in life
  • spring-forward blocker agents according to the bhava which = 6th-from-Rahu
1=self
2 = family history, 2nd spouse
3= younger sibling/cousin
4 = parent
5= children
6 =servants, mother's relatives
7= spouse, business partner
8 = spouse's family
9 = professor, religious teacher
(,,,,,,, 11 = elder sibling,, )
Ketu
[South lunar node]
12th-from Ketu
6th-from- Rahu

Ketu moves "backwards" so this would be agraha in a 2/12 angle to Ketu
extreme detachment and quietude which could be, or be interpreted socially as, mental illness.
Could also be a yogi in disguise!
Death-wish, self-destructive behaviors.
